Explore Century-old Architecture at The Overlook at St. Gabriel’s

The Overlook at St. Gabriel’s is not only one of the newest communities in Boston’s Brighton neighborhood, but it’s also filled with rich history around every corner. Built in the 1920s and transformed a century later, The Overlook is an address unlike anything you’ve experienced before. Welcome to a unique blend of modern residences and timeless details.

Maker Hall

Our thoughtfully designed Maker Hall wasn’t always an amenity center of epic proportions. Before its transformation, Maker Hall was actually St. Gabriel’s Church, constructed in 1929. You can still experience the history today with the original stained glass, sacristy gates, two chandeliers and areas of marble flooring where the altar once stood, all intact. The next time you work from our private conference rooms or head to the fitness center, don’t forget to stop and take a look around.

Overlook Landmark

The crown jewel of our community, Overlook Landmark, was formerly the historic St. Gabriel’s Monastery. Built in 1906 and closed in 2006, this building came roaring back to life in recent years. Although the monastery has been expertly transformed into a one-of-a-kind collection of residences, many original features remain. These features include two refurbished stairways, the exterior design of the windows and doors, refurbished entry doors and lobby vestibule, as well as the original private chapel, which is now the Sanctuary Lounge.

North Porch

What is now the perfect place to kick back, relax and socialize, the North Porch was once the location of the former annex. Constructed in 1927, the annex connected the St. Gabriel’s Church and Monastery. However, it had to be torn down in order to return the monastery to its original condition, as required by the Boston Preservation Alliance to be designated as a historical landmark. What was once a building of the church is now a tranquil community area ideal for enjoying the fresh air.
